Panthers Prep for Golden Warriors

Tonight at 7:30 pm Pitt (26-3, 13-3 Big East) takes on the Golden Eagles, as they are now known, of Marquette. In the non-pc era, they were the Golden Warriors, in honor of the Wisconsinite Amerian Indian population, which is a tremendous name.

Marquette will be playing its second game without the services of point guard Dominic James, who broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, ironically the same injury that shelved Levance Fields for 12 games last season. James was a 4 year starter, although he regressed last year and this year in my opinion and has been passed by by some of his teammates. Marquette is coming off a 62-58 loss to Louisville.

Marquette is coached by first year coach Brent "Buzz" Williams, known so because he buzzes around everywhere with high energy. He has put together a top 5 recruiting class for next year and he has Marquette performing very well this season, at (23-6, 12-4).

The Panthers are coming off a 89-78 win over Seton Hall in which saw the scare of DeJaun Blair going down with a possible knee injury. All reports are that he is ok after a hyperextension of his left knee. Blair is one player the Panthers cannot lose if they want to make any major post season runs. He is their best player, their #1 rebounder, their second leading scorer, a major enthusiastic force, tied for team lead in steals, and a ton of other things.

If the Panthers win tonight, it will be a great feeling going into Saturday's noon game versus Uconn.
